6 c. sliced baking apples
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 tblsp. lemon juice
1 tblsp. water
1 c. blackberries
2  c. all-purpose flour
1⁄4 c. of brown sugar
1 tblsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. (1/4 lb.) cold butter, cut in chunks
1 c. whipping cream

NOTE: You can use other combinations of fruit & berries, as long as it adds up to about 7 cups of fruit!

Preheat oven to 350°.

Combine first 4 ingredients in a medium saucepan; cook 10 minutes over medium heat or until apples are soft. Place apple mixture in an 8-inch pie plate. Sprinkle blackberries over apple mixture.

In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and remaining 1/4 cup sugar. With your fingers or a pastry blender, rub or cut butter into flour mixture until coarse crumbs form. Add cream and stir just until mixture forms a soft, crumbly dough.

Pat 1/4-cup portions of dough into flat disks 1/2 inch thick and arrange evenly over fruit.

Bake in a 350º oven until topping is golden brown and fruit is bubbling, 45 to 55 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
